NeuroLingo App
The NeuroLingo App is a free resource designed to help you learn new vocabulary faster and remember it longer. It uses the latest science-based scheduling to make sure you review words at just the right time — no wasted effort, maximum retention.
With curated flashcards, high-quality audio, and image support for up to 40,000 words per language, the app gives you everything you need to build a strong foundation.
Want to go further? Pair the app with General Neuro’s non-invasive NeuroLingo headset. While you study, the headset gently stimulates the brain’s language centers to boost plasticity and accelerate learning. In research studies, similar stimulation improved vocabulary learning by more than 40%. By joining, you’ll also be contributing to our citizen science initiative exploring the future of adult language learning.

If you're interested in the science of how our headset works, check out our science page. We offer the top 12 most commonly studied languages, listed at the bottom of the page. For each language, we offer both a formal beginner flashcard deck and our huge frequency list. You can choose what topics or difficulty level you want to start with.
Also, if you get the Model 1 Headset, you can use the App's FreeBoost mode to stimulate your brain's language comprehension region while you watch, say, Chinese movies, read Russian scientific papers, or simply want to use Duolingo, ha.
The Measured Boost.
Requires Neurolingo Model 1.
The clinical literature shows up to a 40% increase in words learned with transcranial direct current stimulation. That's why we built the app, because slapping on the headset isn't enough to quantify its effect. We built the app to guide, measure, and maximize the effect of the stimulation first for everyone, then for you.
As we continue to collect data on how people study with and without the headset, the app will show how much performance gains you get over baseline, and personalize the stimulation to your learning. By using the app, you're contributing to neuroscience research. If you're interested in understanding more about how you're helping to break boundaries in science, please read our science page, or reach out to our neuroscientist: alec@generalneuro.com
Or, FreeBoost
You can use the NeuroLingo anywhere.
We've even had students use it in class.
We love using it while consuming comprehensible input like Dreaming Spanish, or our favorite foreign shows and podcasts.
You can use the FreeBoost mode with whatever material you want. While we can't measure the stimulation's effect if you study outside of the app, we're confident, based on the research -- that it should help improve how quickly you learn with many modalities of learning, from practicing speaking to reading difficult passages.
After all, our goal is to get you fluent as fast as possible, not to trap you in our app!
What else?
Today, the app uses flashcards with FSRS v6, but we're working on introducing Clozes (fill-in-the-blank sentences) and Pronunciation exercises this year.
We currently support these languages:
- English (soon top 300,000 words)
- Spanish
- Russian
- Hindi
- Mandarin
- Arabic
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese Kanji
- Japanese Hiragana
- Japanese Katakana
- Korean
- Brazilian Portuguese
- European Portuguese
We have plans to add support for more dialects, such as European Spanish and Levantine Arabic, as well as new languages, (see Crow Apsaalooke). If you're interested in something specific, please reach out!
